Disagreement Resolution and Mediation Service

What is mediation Intuition PPIMS SEN Disagreement Resolution and Mediation Service provides free mediation for parents/carers, schools and the LEA, when there is a disagreement about a child’s special educatioal needs, or how these needs are being met.

It offers:

Mediation by an independent person who is trained in working with people to assist them in communicating and resolving disagreements

  • An opportunity for both parties to meet, discuss the issues and hear each others point of view
  • An opportunity to focus on the future rather than the past
  • An opportunity for both parties to identify and explore options and possible solutions.

It is:

  • A voluntary process – all parties agree to take part
  • Without prejudice – it does not in any way affect parent’s right of appeal to SEN Disability Tribunal (SENDIST)
  • Very effective with an 86% success rate…

Mediation can:

  • Achieve practical solutions to long-standing disagreements and disputes
  • Lead to greater understanding and communication
  • Build ownership – it allows you to express your point of view, be heard and have ownership for the solution
  • Bring about restorative justice – justice being felt to be done Lead to binding agreements being made
  • Promote reconciliation and reduce conflict – it is not about being right or wrong.

Who will be the Mediator?

The mediator will be a neutral and impartial person who has no involvement in the case or outcome. Both parties will agree to the person who is to mediate.

The Mediation will take place in Ealing

Do I need legal representation at Mediation?

No, Mediation is an informal process and so legal representatives do not take part. However, you can take someone to support you. Parent Partnership can help you identify someone to support you at Mediation.
